I am looking for exhaust valve lash caps for a 1937 Model 22. Apparently I misplaced them on a Cat I am fixing. (I'm not sure they were ever there!)
Thanks.

Hmmm, I just looked at my 22 parts book and I can't see any "valve lash caps" listed, BruceOz is the 22 expert here in Oz, you will need to wait for the sun to come up before he chimes in.

I've got a few 22's here and have yet to pull the rockers off one, so can't claim to be a expert, but none of my other old gas Cat engines use valve lash caps, just simple adjusters like a regular motor, though I'm always waiting to be proven wrong. LOL

When I rebuilt my CAT22, 2F5209, I do not recall any such parts. Just normal valve adjusters. I do not see any valve lash caps in my parts manual.

We had the head done at an reputable engine shop. It was pretty grim and needed new valves which they provided. The exhaust valves are at least 1/8 inch too short now for adjustment. They claim they need lash caps. I guess they screwed up. Thanks for information!

Ah, you need lash caps to make up the difference. I'm wondering if you can browse generic ones and find something suitable? It might be that a set of lash caps turn out more expensive than a new set of valves with the stems cut to the correct length?

Seems to me that the Engine Shop should own this problem, not the customer.

I agree, sounds like a very poor engine shop to me, not even close to the correct size valves, if it was a $50 head job done by a kid down the street I could understand, but I bet it cost a bit more than $50.
