I bumped my exhaust stack coming out of the intake flange and broke it. Fitted the pieces back together with chamfers ground in them and brazed them back together. Brazing is easy if you buy some good flux. Holding up nicely. Try it.

From my experience brazing is not the best. For what ever reason I like running the alweld brass gas welding rod. Used to do a lot tin work on combines with it. So I used on 9u pony exhaust went together well. Started cracking apart very soon. Old experienced independent mechanic spots my work and informs me,he has never seen brazing last over time. His explanation was the brass gets brittle over time from heating and cooling cycles. So may last for today's hobo use compared my 6 days a week 35 years ago.

I would think today a small mig would be a good option. As well as die grinder with wire wheel to clean rust off real good.

my brother is good with tig….the flange is more oil coated and carbon than rust.....I found Ford tractor elbow for around $30, but it's a little too big, ( 1 and 5/8 ), and I need 1 and1/4....

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
