Are you referring to the "Caterpillar" and "D6" on the radiator side plates?
They are cast in, not a separate tag.

The later model cat 9u have metal name plates. I have two rusted out ones that came off my D6 9u.

Do you have part numbers. My 1973 printed parts book shows cast side panels 9U28320-up. Don't recall ever seeing separate tags.

Our D6 s/n 9U24529 has the riveted on nameplates as well. As Old Magnet indicated, our parts manual also only shows the stamped model.

D6 plate is here: http://www.tractorparts.com/crawlerplates.htm
they might have a good used "caterpillar" plate as well.

Why not change out the side panels for the cast versions?

I could not find the name plates in a number of parts books i looked through. My D6 s/n is 9u19383. I believe they are discontinued my Caterpillar. They seem to rust out pretty quickly at least they do along the Pacific coast. I really believe that the cast name plates are earlier D6 tractors. I want to thank everybody for their help.
