Caterpillar Fifteen

Hello to all,

Well restoring our 1954 cat D2 wasn’t good enough. Now my bride of 47 years and I have brought home a 1929 cat Fifteen it is in good shape, runs but needs some love. I know it’s a long shot ( like hens teeth ) but does anyone have a set of engine side panels ? And maybe the headlights which look like Model t ford ( our other hobby) Thanks for any help

Sounds like a great project, you’re right side panels are like hen’s teeth. There are repo ones around although scarce too..

Oh wow. If any of those were available, I'd love to dress up one of mine too. The original cast style latches retailed for almost $100.00 each from Scott F., when he was alive. Doggone Skinner posted seconds before I hit the send button. Hahaha. JM

Sorry to get your hopes up, Skinner! Photo was from an old document I found. Such a shame aftermarket suppliers are wary of the vintage Cat market. We need more stuff!

Here is what I’ve done,I found a small fab shop with a burn table. My wife and I cut poster board 18” high by 37 1/2 long with the louvers drawn to full size scale.

The shop will laser out the panels and the louvers.The vents will not have the raised edges but they are 1/2” wide and will suffice. The hinges are very similar to Model A Ford hood latches,which I get from Snyders antique parts. Then weld 3” long metal pipe on top to accept 1/4” rod from existing top hood.

It’s a bit of work but I think the side panels make it even though there is no raised vent.

The shop can also cut out two mud guards which can then be bent. Paint it Cat grey put on the new red decals which I found on E bay and we are off to show it at various shows in northeast Ohio.
