Caterpillar D2 (3J) Tractor with original orchard fenders and numerous used spare parts including some of the original Caterpillar service tools. The tractor starts, runs and steers reliably and is in reasonable shape for its age, all of the original guards and panels are in place. The undercarriage shows signs of wear but apparently the track bushings have not yet been rotated. This is a 3J series D2 (40 inch, narrow gauge) with the original serial number 3J1813SP (manufactured in 193😎. The tractor was used to pull an offset disc and spring-tooth harrow in a Southern California citrus orchard and stored in a shed when not in use. In the late 1960's the diesel engine was damaged beyond repair by water intrusion at the head gasket and the tractor remained outdoors until repairs could be completed. In the mid 1970's the diesel engine was replaced with engine serial number 5J7450SP (Caterpillar D3400 engine manufactured in 1945). The tractor is now in Shingletown, CA 96088 and stored indoors. Recent repairs and maintenance have been added to the machine to improve performance. The current reading on the hour-meter of the engine is 8949 hours. Tractor statistics (approximate): Weight 6870 pounds / Length 9.0' / Width 5.0' / Height (to the top of the exhaust stack) 6.5'. I'm asking for $5,000 for this machine.
