Trying to replace the seals around the drive shaft on my #44 hyd pump ser #6W12536. I have the unit off and have also pulled the pump from the unit. I have a copy of the page from a parts book showing the parts detail so at least I can see what they look like

My question is can the "Retainer" part #4F3964, which appears to hold the seal, be removed by just taking out the 4 cap screws? Or do I have to dismantle the whole pump?

I have tapped on it with a chisel to try and get it free and then I tapped a little harder. It does not seem to have budged at all. The pump seems fine so I would rather not take it all to pieces if I do not have to.

Thanks for any advice, randy

The retainer can be pretty snug in there, but will come out without taking the rest apart, may take some soaking and lots of tapping with a brass drift or plastic mallet, but should come free, just don't bust it, you might make a small hook type, slide hammer puller and hook the edge near the shaft, once it is a little loose.

Thanks for that detail. Did not want to keep trying only to find out that that was something holding it from behind.

Will persevere.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
