Looking for a 24 volt starter for a D2.  Part # 5H764.  It is a Delco-Remy brand.  It is a 40 MT without the solenoid mounted on it.  I know they are difficult to find but would like to keep the D2 in stock condition.  I would gladly take one that is in poor shape but rebuildable.
Please let me know if you can find anything.
Thank You,
Gary

I'm wondering if you could make one up out of parts Gary. Seems that the motor would largely be the same as any other. The nose would be different but then it might be a shared part number with other fitments, and the armature shaft / Bendix arrangement might be adaptable from other fitments too. The nose could even be milled or modified from another. Not your first choice obviously but could be an option. I'm contemplating a 6V inertia starter based on those considerations (strictly for hot starts : )

Hi Neil,
That's what I may have to do. I got one starter a while back that was not exactly correct but I may be able to make it fit by mixing and matching parts. I am still hoping to find something complete and ready to go. Thanks for the ideas. Gary

I ran 6 volt starters on converted 12 volt tractors and a GMC truck 40 years never a problem!

My plan is to run my 6v starter at 6v, using the existing battery. The trick will be to marry the 6V components to the D2-specific nose and gear/Bendix

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
