Well Yancey Brothers of Georgia will be celebrating it's 100th Anniversiary this year. I do not have details on the actual celebration but that info will be comming soon!

http://www.yanceybros.com/home/company/history
Establishment of the Nation’s First Caterpillar Dealership In 1918, the Holt Manufacturing Company of Peoria, IL boasted that its model 45 tractor could do the work of, “40 mules . . . or 40 horses and countless humans.”
Goodloe and Earle traveled to Peoria to ask Holt if they could represent the product in the southeastern United States.
Holt preferred direct sales to end users and questioned the need for local distribution, preferring to target sales to the United States Army.
Unable to secure a demonstration tractor, Goodloe and Earle left Peoria with only a photograph of the Holt Model 45 and a price quote of $4,750 per machine.

Yancey’s first Model 45 delivery came later that year to Troup County, Georgia. Within 12 months Yancey had sold all of the Model 45’s in Holt’s inventory, using only a single photograph.
When Goodloe and Earle returned to the Holt factory in Peoria the following year, they were given Holt’s first jobber’s contract, and a higher commission than initially promised.

In 1925 Holt merged with Best Tractor Co. to become the Caterpillar Tractor Company, now the world’s largest manufacturer of earthmoving equipment.
Records at Caterpillar’s corporate offices in Peoria indicate that, based on the original agreement date of December 19, 1918, “Yancey is the dealer with whom Caterpillar and its predecessor companies have had the longest business association.” Thus, Yancey Bros. Co. is proud to claim the title of, “The Nation’s Oldest Caterpillar Dealer.”

Erik; That was a nice article about Yancey. I had been a dealer man for 42 years and did not know that Yancey goes back to being the first Dealer starting with Holt.
I wonder about the first BEST dealer and if perhaps one of the originals still exists. Sounds like Yancey is "THE" original. Bill Walter

I believe Quinn began as a Best Dealer in 1919-20 as Budd and Quinn. I have a friend who has a 1921 Best 30 that was bought new from Budd and Quinn. I believe Ziegler is also an original Best Dealer from the late teens early 20's.

also own a 1912 Holt 30 hp serial number 5018. We also own a 2nd Holt 30 hp- serial number unknown 1913 ? The 1912
Holt 30 hp is the oldest Holt orchard tractor in North America.

We are not sure which is the earliest orchard tractor in the world. You absolutely have the earliest Holt/Best orchard tractor in the world. The Improved Johnson orchard tractor was built in Sunnyvale, Ca has a patent date of 1909 and as you know is in the Paso Robles Pioneer Day collection. Rumely acquired the rights in 1911-12 and our tractor predates this Rumely relationship. We will probably never really know the manufacture date of the Johnson but it is really early. The Holt is far superior to the Johnson in technology and practicality. I really like the Holt 30's as you know.

BEST to you and Mike.

We just got back from the first of several celebrations for Yancey Brothers Caterpillar
This particular event was held in the Savannah Expo center in Savannah Ga.
We had a good time and everyone really enjoyed seeing the old cats next to new machines.
Most people were not aware of ACMOC but we were able to provide them with information about the club and many of them will be future members.
We were able to display 7 items:
1928 Top seat 30
1929 PV Fifteen
1932 7C Fifteen
1936 Forty
1937 D8800 Engine
1938 22 Terracer
1940 D2 3J

The next major event will be at the Yancey Headquarters in Atlanta Ga.

We found more Caterpillars in Savannah while we were there. A Davenport D8800 engine train, which now has a cummings engine, and also a twin mid cab D17000 locomotive.
While looking around i also saw a picture of a Holt 75 working in the military pulling large guns for the war.

Well we traveled 3450 miles hauling 5 loads of machinery to two separate events. It was a pleasure and honor to have help Yancey in its celebrations.
I hope that we were able to educate people on antique machines and boost awareness for ACMOC in the great state of Georgia.
Please enjoy a few pictures and a more detailed write up will be in the next Chapter 12 report.
