Just thought I'd share a picture of my grandfather on his D8 in late WW2. Any info or comments are appreciated

You are right about that. I never really noticed before, I always just appreciated the picture. One of my family members had just shared it with me and said D8, so I went with it. It never crossed my mind really, but I see it now. Rookie mistake. Thanks for bringing that to my attention. I see by the air cleaner and tin work now

It will probably annoy me for a while now, being that I'm usually very particular about knowing my machinery.

My Grandpa ran and hauled Cats all over Germany right after WW2. He was in the army. I believe if i remember the story right. International actually had the contract for most of the dozers supplied to the military then. He said later on they got Cats. Mainly because they could get parts. I would assume that their was both Internationals and Cats over their.

My grandfather was a tech 5 with the army corp of engineers. He was all over Europe and a few other countries I believe. The Cat was just one of the many machines he operated, besides his assigned Diamond T 969A and trailer unit. He never said much about it though.

Probably a 4T. seems to be fitted with LeTourneau blade and PCU. Over head gear seems to be unusual though.

I was thinking LeTourneau as well, but there are definitely a few different things than I'm used to seeing on LeTourneau blade setups

D7 tractor not LeTourneau blade and headache rack. The fairlead sheaves could be LeT, the control levers not visible, the one for blade drum over back of seat can't see. Possible the straight one is just to rear of tarp or what ever.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
