Caterpillar 3304 block casting number 2P940. Do you think it’s a good idea to have it fixed or is it playing with fire??

Joel, talk to a few reputable shops and see what they say - someone that does this day in and day out - and compare to the cost of a replacement block

Considering both sides of the crack are visible - a skilled welder could Braze it. Bob

well need more info. with a newer block like that dose that the motor has to make money or is it just out of a toy. as funny as it sounds some of us are in to the problem solving / fixing more than running of the equipment. so you could research how to fix a crack block and then have a go but if it's a money maker than get a new one so you have reliable motor what's it out of 627? all depends how you value your time and what tools you have available.

Its junk, any repair will distort the rest of the machine work,by the time you restore the liner bore and deck the head surface the cost is more than the block is worth. It will also be hard to stop the crack from running. A repair shop would not stand behind the repair so you have nothing....WA7OPY

The 3304 blocks are pretty plentiful and not worth messing with extensive repairs.

New if your going to keep it and not want that fix to linger in your head when the next $$$$ repair comes along.
