Both tractors are 46A series and 270 hp. Blown head gasket could be a cracked head, dropped cylinder liner.
Both tractors appear tidy.

I think I read the dropped liner is caused by the block cracking and letting it fall down?

Low liners causing head gasket problems was quite common on the 270hp D8 engine, mainly caused by corrosion/erosion of the liner counterbore in the block, there is no way to know if the liners are low without removing the cylinder heads.
The machine with the ripper looks to have done less work but I suspect the outer left final drive seal is leaking and with those big U blades they not be the ideal tool for a land clearance job, best get someone with knowledge to give them a good coat of looking at before making a decision. [
I'll have to look up a workshop manual and look into what all is involved in a liner changeout, I havent had a chance to work on any larger industrial diesels, just my ol 6blow powerstroke and some cummins.
Thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
Liner change is easy, just bigger lumps than smaller engines, the problem is with reclaiming the counterbores, if necessary, the repair involves machining out the block and fitting stainless steel inserts to carry the liners
Seems to me like too much for a machine that could have serious problems - especially the head issue. But hard to say.
I do have the service manual in the online library, pm your email if you want to a copy.
Haven't done any work on large engines, so opinion only, but while the work may be simple, I would expect the shear size/weight of parts and torques would make working on one somewhat challenging. Certainly doable, but harder, and more potential to get hurt working with heavy parts.
there is a another d8 on craigslist , look on portland craigslist.
