Wiring from generator and regulator back to battery and starter

Hi folks,
New member and new owner of a 1951 D47U. cat is in good shape but needs the wiring redone for the pony and battery. It has a bosch 60 amp generator. Delco remy pony starter. Has a battery box with no battery. It appears that wiring goes from voltage regulator to a gauge or ammeter on dash then across towards the starter. From that point there is no wiring from starter to battery box. I do have a switch that was not on starter to begin with. If anyone can send pictures of their wiring for this setup that would be great. D47U11255

What gauge wiring does this take?
Is there a switch for the battery box as well?

Attached is a wiring diagram from form 12244-7, Operation and Maintenance Instructions, serial # 7U 1 and up. If you don't have or plan to use lights just ignore that part

Not to much to work with - Caterpillar did not furnish much useful stuff on wiring. I have never found anything that showed the actual path/ location for the wiring system.

What voltage is the generator? If it's a 6V system, I used 00 wire from the battery to ground and to the starter and it's satisfactory. It needs to be a large cross-section to carry the amps. If 12v, you can go lighter, but to a point, the larger the better. There will be a wire from the +ve post on the starter (the wire from the battery) to the ammeter, then from the other side of the ammeter to the [strike]generator[/strike] regulator BAT post, and from that same ammeter post to any lights you have on the tractor (forgot to include the regulator in the equation - thanks for the reminder phildirt)

Let's try this again:
The outputs from the generator go only to the voltage regulator. A single 8 gauge wire goes from the voltage regulator (BAT) terminal to one side of the ammeter and out the other side to the battery.
The light circuit also picks up voltage from the ammeter circuit One wire (00 gauge) goes from the battery to the solenoid on the starter, and the push button switch activates the starter solenoid and the starter.
Nothing comes direct from the generator other than the output to the voltage regulator.
You will need to polarize the regulator by make a momentary jump between the BAT and ARM terminals before starting.
