While I have my old D6 9U hood off, and installing the pony shield, I thought about painting. I need to paint to preserve, not to show, and don't have an air compressor in my shop yet. Thought about using POR Hardnose yellow to brush on a coating. Use the stuff on one of my implements, and the stuff looks OK brushed.
This old girl will be on my farm for the next couple or more decades, so looking to preserve not to pretty.

Which POR product is closest to CAT yellow of vintage 50-53?.

None of it is close to Cat Yellow and it fades like crazy.
I quit using POR products....to many problems when attempting to add additional coats.

Rustoleum makes old Cat yellow in a spray can. You might have to order it.

I'd say if you have some laying around, use it. If it fades, who cares if you are just looking at protecting the underlying metal. If looks are a concern, top coat it with a urethane tractor paint with hardener. I get mine from Farm & Fleet and their Safety Yellow is pretty close.

Will go with the Rustoleum.

Found it online for $31.69 per 15 oz can :wacko:and $6.49 per 15 oz can:clap2:. Can't afford the caddillac cans. Must be some good stuff. No wait... both made by rustoleum.

Guess my next project is an air compressor and spray gun setup:violin:.

You should consider a Wagner electric paint sprayer. I stuck up my nose when I was forced to use one on the job. I tried it and I was amazed at how good it worked. My God how that thing would lay on paint. I have been using air spraying for close to 70 years, and there is still nothing like it, but I think you would be very happy with the Wagner and it would cost a whole lot less money than an air compressor set up.

👋I have a Wagner. I don't even use it for wood anymore. I did not like it. To me, wagners in in the category with black and decker drills and saws. Cheap and good for a couple of time use only.
Will wait until I get a compressor. Already have several guns from when I took autobody classes.

Apologize, I did say I want to paint not pretty and I did inquire about POR.:embarassed:

Have cat yellow rustoleum due in next week.:amen:

Paint is the least of my problems with the old girl. I am waiting on a whole bunch of parts to come in and just wanted to coat the hood and dash, and paint up some broken bolts areas that I know will require heat to get out. Temp cover over bare spots.

I have a whole bunch of maintenance to do before a paint job.👍
