Lay a piece of pipe on the ground wider then the machine. Drive over and when the machine tips over it the will be very close to the horizontal CG point. The the vertical and cross wise CG point are not important to establish your tongue weight.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
Hi, Sweet D2.
Timbo1946's advice is sound as far as it goes. You may want to take it a step further. I don't know if you have ever seen a 'teeter-totter' competition for tractors where they have a platform on a balance point and a contestant drives their tractor up the platform trying to find the balance point without send the platform completely the other way. You can do something similar at home withe a small log and a couple of old railroad ties or other sturdy planks - simple yet effective - - - - - and fun as well as educational.
just my 0.02.
I'm not going to say the CG is irrelevant, but what matters is how your truck pulls the trailer + load . I try to borrow a goose neck for the heavier loads because it is less sensitive to load position.
I agree with STEPHEN as I tend to have a sweet spot for hitch ride hieght that sets tongue wieght.
I believe a person could indeed find "CG" for the load, then find "CG" for the trailer and come to the same conclusion?
Isn't tongue wieght also a max value rating on the hitch?
Sidebar: I'm ordering a B&W Turnover ball gooseneck for my pickup, and then I'll be hiring Tim's trailer to go get my D2 ; )
Those hitches seem to have really good press, and I like that with the same system I can also use a fifth wheel.
Cheers,
Neil
I tow with a 2500 Dodge Cummins and a 14K Walton trailer. I always measure the height under the front wheel arch on the truck and have someone stand with the tape measure and let me know when the front has raised up two inches as I load the Cat. It gives me a sense of comfort knowing the tractor and trailer combo have plenty of tongue weight. I once brought home a lot of chain link fencing with little to no tongue weight and that taught me a good lesson!

I put the B&W turnover ball on my pickup just so I could borrow a nice trailer. It wasn't too had to install & has worked well so far.
