My info (7u parts book) shows DE start @7U28380 (1954)
The 6U would be at the same time.
This would still be as an attachment option.
OM: Agreed, the 24V DE start was effective with 7U28380. However the starter hole machined in the flywheel housing started at 7U28232. Apparently it took the factory another month to get all the needed parts.
Not many 1954 (or even 1955) D4's had 24V DE start. The attachment must have been slow to be accepted, even though it was about $50 lower cost than the gasoline starting engine system. 24V DE was not recommended for ambient temperatures below 25 deg F (or below 15 deg F if ether aid was used).
