Last weekend I was teaching my wife how to drive the D2 when it decided to cease its normal functioning. She said that thare was a noticable loss in power. This was acompinied by a loud banging sound that was distinctly reminisent of the car when the head gasket went last month. At a idle the banging would go away.

I am woundering if it is a stuck valve?

It's always smoked a little on one cylnder for as long as I can remember. I was also noticing a few weeks ago that when you look at the exaust manifold that the front cylnder never got hot enough to burn the paint off of the manifold.

so I gess I am going to pull the head once I get my truck out of the machanic bay.

Is it safe to drive the D2 up from the equipment shed on its own power or should I drag it up with the loader?

First start it up and run it at high idle where you can hear the noise and crack each injector line one at a time to see if the noise goes away. A bad injector nozzle can cause a knock just like a rod bearing.

Looks to me like you've been running on 3 cylinders....no fire in that one hole.
I'd guess one of the remaining cylinders is acting up so your down to 2+ and no power.
Do the injector check, swap around to verify cylinder operation and then determine if the head needs to come off.
If you have bad valves you should be hearing the engine spit out the exhaust or at the intake.

OM and JMV have pretty well pin pointed the miss and by the manifold color it looks like the #1 is the culprit. As was suggested switch the #1 with #4 and see if the miss follows.I have found dozens and dozens of them that were not firing and many times if your dealer or an injection shop is near with a tester have them pump it out and many times will clear them out of the debree and will work again. Maybe as long as it,s gone you may need a new one or a good used one. If you advertise for one get the number off the old nozzle and go by that unless someone else had put the wrong one in sometime.
