I need to clean the diesel fuel system on a 1938 D2 3J. I have removed the fuel tank and fuel line. I will clean them with a muratic acid. Then coat the inside of the tank with a sealer.

Now what is the best way to clean the fuel filter area and the pump with the unit still on the Cat?

I was think about plugging the fuel inlet (where fuel line from tank connects) and then removing the fuel filter cover and fill the chamber with gasoline.

Can anyone that has ever done this before advise me on things to check for or change in the area of the fuel pump?

Thanks
Jim

DO NOT USE GASOLINE IN FILTER HOUSING! ck operators manual, it gives instructions on changing filters and cleaning out housing. do this and then try starting, i'd leave transfer pump alone for now till you know your new pressure.
good idea and good luck.

This has been sitting since the 50"s and the old fuel is sludge now. I would like to prevent as much of this junk as possible from going through the system.

Anything above the filters should be ok, The housing will be full of crap but are designed to be cleaned out at filter changes with your "hand", ( ask b4d2) then kero or diesel. Take the pump off now to ck passage ways and bypasses if you want. good luck.
