Looks like or similar to an early LeTourneau, with that pipe rising from the back to the frame up front, like on a Sixty, well until you get to the back, looks like it doubles as a PCU/CCU and a towing winch, must be slow/low geared to work as a towing winch. Never saw one of these. I remember seeing a WWII D7 photo once whereas a LeT PCU was being used as a towing winch, must have been hard on those driving/driven cone type friction brakes they had and having higher gears and much faster line speed.

Hi, Billy D7 4T.
That is a European CCU, probably French, maker unknown, which was fitted to some European machines from the late 1940's and 1950's, notably he French ADN crawlers. I know of one about 4 hours drive North of here, at a place named Bundaberg, Queensland, fitted to an ADN 130 crawler. More than that, I do not know, but some of our English friends may be able to elict more information through the Classic Machinery magazine. One of their regular contributors, Francis Pierre, may have some further 'dope' on it.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

Sure is different isn't it ? At 2nd glance maybe it does not double as a towing winch, but that cross piece looks like something to guide wire rope, I'm not so sure what it's purpose is. Always fun to see what turns up on e-bay though isn't it ?

I want to say LaPlante-Choate, like for their WWII era overhead ridge beam type dozer kits but you would probably know that if it was, certainly appears to be a less common MFR, I don't recognize the drums or the sheaves up top, looks like something that might have been more common or seen on a A-C or Cletrac or something, probably fun to find parts for too.

OM,
Your mastery cable control unit would be a Gar Wood. I think we’ll find they were used more on the early AC’s

I am more interested in the double grouser track plates with holes in them. What special purpose did they serve.

Hi, Billy D7 4T.
I faintly suspect that that cross bar might once have been a roller to help guide the cable when using drawn cable-controlled implements. That is BEFORE it was rudely re-modelled by some ham-fisted clot of an 'aimer'. I don't remember the only one I've seen 'in the flesh' having that cross tube/bar but then it was on a machine that had apparently been used only as a dozer and had Fairlead sheaves on the back instead. That same machine also apparently sat in the bush slowly melting away for around 50 years before being rescued about 4 years ago. All things considered, it is in remarkably good shape.

Here are a few pics of the jigger, along with a page of a brochure. The main donk is an 18-litre MAN diesel and the pony is a neat little 4-banger. It is around 2U D8 size at 130 hp. Last I heard, he had also located another one of them, probably as a parts machine since it had been somewhat butchered. There are a couple more within a few miles of him that he may be able to access for parts too.

Enjoy. THAT'S an order. LOL.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
