What parts will swap out? D6B - 9U

I just bought a D69U because it had a root rake I wanted and the running gear is not that bad. I know the engine in my D6B is a 333 and the 9U has a 318 but will the final drives, clutch packs, transmission, and running gear swap out? What else would you salvage before dumping the rest. The head has been completly redone
My D6B is a 44a12### and I think the 9U is high in the serial numbers.

Without doing a whole lot of part number research I believe most of the power train from the flywheel on back is interchangeable with the "U" series, along with the rolling parts of the undercarriage. A very late 9U would also share the same track recoil assemblies whether they be standard or hydraulic adjuster type.

The track adjusters are both hydraulic but are a bit different. I will definitly strip out the final drives and clutch paks. What would be the best way to store the final drive parts? In a bucket of waist oild. wrapped in oil soaked rags?

Storage seems to always be a problem. Your suggestions sound good to me except you may be looking at drum size container😄 😄 The biggest problem I have is not marking containers then forgetting what's in them.......or where I put them🙄 🙄

Any kind of bucket with oil or not can make a mess if it gets water blown in it, rained in etc. So many times there is a bucket of bolts and small parts that goes with an old tractor and almost invariably there is/was water in it and everything is ruined.

If you decide to use a bucket, use a lid or cover with something to at least keep mice and bugs out of it and shed small amounts of water. Better to knock a few holes in the bottom so any water can drain unless you are going to do it right.

For large items like a transmission or final drive, I would leave them complete and cover/stuff the openings with greased paper or cloth and store in a shed etc.

There should be some market for good 9U parts even if they won't fit your 44A. Pony motor or direct start parts, good radiator, hood, tool box and battery box, hydraulic control units, CCU's etc. would be high on my list to save.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄
