I'm always in agreement on the Champions are crap discussions.
BUT I think somewhere I posted that my belief was starting to slide toward poor quality fuel that was causing the tracking/fouling issues on the sparkplugs?
Think of it this way; if you sold 1000 sparkplugs as a small manufacturer and 2% had fouling issues, only 20 people would be complaining. Now multiply that by 10 and you have 200 people complaining, then factor in the World Wide Web. 😈
There are suddenly LOTS of people listening!
The reason I say this is because at some point in the past I took out whatever sparkplugs I had in the Pony motor and replaced them with some "new" looking Champions sparkplugs!
Disclaimer: "New looking around here is a relative term as I recycle alot of treasure" 😆
It has been starting and running reliably ever since!
So I guess in answer to GW's question, put in whatever plug you want and see if it works consistantly and reliably!

I had trouble with Champion spark plugs fouling way back in 1987. I've been using AC or Autolite since then. Was there a problem with our gas bad way back then? None of the other plugs (with a Black Oxide finished base, not the Cadmium plated base like Champion) seem to foul as easily in antique, low-compression engines.

However, Champion plugs do work well in small air-cooled (Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, etc.) engines.👍

Other rusty old junk comes & goes without warning.

I have had champion j8c plugs for the last 5 years and just decided time to put new ones in---haven't had a problem yet. The parts book plugs didn't fit, and SJ told me that the newer heads with the plugs in the middle are a smaller thread. Gave the Cat plugs (Champion) to Bill Glenn as he had the older heads.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
