"Did you say a 99???" "Maybe an 86?" I'll ask the Chief"![]()
[quote="janmeermans"]To my grader gurus,
We have a Cat 12 grader SN 71D 219 here at the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum in Vista CA. It has decals showing it to be a 12E but since that should be a 99-???? it must be mis-marked. Do we have a 12C? What year is it? When did the 8T stop being made?
Thanks guys.

That's a plain #12 model, 1957 production. The letter designation didn't start until the 99E ("E" model) by my records. The 8T production ran until late 1959/60 and was replaced by the 99E in the same period. Total production of the 8T was 21,904 units
There ya go Jan. lol
Thanks old magnet. I knew you would come thru!
Now another question. The Cat 12 has 14.00 x 24.00 tires and rims. Will 13.00 x 24.00 tires and rims fit it?

13 x 24 (12-ply) is the original equipment size for the rears.
9 x 24 is original equipment size for the fronts.
13 x 24's for the fronts are listed as an "attachment".

Our 1953 Cat 112 has wheels and tires as you laid out above with 9x24 on the front, however, the Cat 12 w/6-cyl. engine currently is set up with 6 - 14 x 24 tires which are shot and need to be replaced. I found 6 - 13 x 24s in good shape and am trying to figure out if they will fit the Cat 12 71D-219 (unknown year)
If 8Ts ran through 1959, did this 71D series run in parallel for a few years since you said ours was 1957?
JanM
It gets messy, by tire/wheel size it looks like they will interchange but when you go to the actual parts, wheel assy, base rim, flange and ring they are different part numbers.
Looks like I overshot the production of 8T's, my somewhat questionable source says they ended production in 1957. The 71D only produced 742 units from 1957 to 1959.
serial product index says its a 12 Motor Grader 1957
