I am wondering if it may be "Pacific Telephone & Electric Company". My reasoning is that it remindes me of "Pacific Gas & Electric" - PG&E, like seen in the movie "Erin Brokovich" with Julia Roberts. Is there any info where is was sold from?

I am fairly certain that it is Peoria Tractor and Equipment Co.

http://www.quinncompany.com/about/history
1926: Joseph A. Quinn established the first dealership in Peoria, Illinois, the site of Caterpillar’s headquarters. Peoria Tractor and Equipment Co. was operated by Joseph A. Quinn until it was sold in 1947.

PT&E is now the Altorfer Caterpillar Dealer http://www.altorfer.com/aboutus.shtml

Walt,
The ebay description (item 171903231828 if anybody wants to see it) said they didn't know where it came from, but it is being shipped from La Grange Park, Illinois. I don't know why Caterpillar would be affiliated with Pacific Telephone & Electric Company unless you know something I don't.

One of my guesses was Power Train and Engine Company also, but I have never heard of Caterpillar calling themselves that. I am going with Erik on Peoria Tractor and Equipment Co, it makes sense that a dealer would put their name on hats and give them away for advertising. I am going to wear it to drive my D4 tailseat around shows. All the old orchard tractor literature shows orchardists wearing this type of hat.

Thanks everybody,
Brian
