Well it wont run this weekend, need some info on d4400 injection pump,

I removed the pump and gov to change out the o rings and clean it up. The lower gov bearing is bad, balls missing, the transfer gear has cut into the case, and the brown paint inside of the housing is flaking off. Does anyone have the timing dimension for the d4400 in a 2t d4 1944, I have a spare pump from a rd4 d4400 that looks to be in better condx if I go that way. I prefer to use the pump that it came with. I will switch the gov housing so I don't have to fix the trust for the transfer gear. I just as well check the timing and start from the ground up at this point. Also does anyone know what the ball bearing number is for a cat p/n 6b924? its the lower bearing for the fly ball gov. I was really looking forward to starting the engine but best laid plans....WA7OPY

Well I found out a cat 6b924 is a 6203 or a old number 203 bearing the same used in a alt in most cars, I still need the depth for timing the plungers....Thanks WA7OPY

Lifter setting is 1.735".

Thanks O M , I found a note my dad wrote 50+ years ago for a cat 12 grader with the same number but +- .003 but that was for a 6 cly engine and I didn't have a parts book for the engine to know if it was the same pump. Might make it run yet, gov is fixed, now I will check the timing....WA7OPY

No tolerance given in the rack setting manual.

from the Lifter Setting Instructions in Form No 7272D (SRB for Caterpillar Fuel Injection Pump Housings) the tolerance is given as +/- 0.001"
At The Dealer we always adjusted them to the given spec. dimension minus 0.001/0.002"
We did this so as to err on the side of being advanced in injection timing for crisper starting and running and allow for future wear.
