955 12a3314 I have water leaking around the top of number two injector. I search the site and found this is probably the pre-combustion chamber. My question is what special tools will I need to do this? Is there any tricks that I need to know.
Thanks

One piece or two piece chamber?

The two piece chamber has the skinny PC chamber and a "retainer" shaped like a doughnut around the top which is removable separately for resealing. There is a set of tools to remove and install the retainer while leaving the chamber screwed into the head. Look down inside the chamber after removing the injector and you should see two size threads inside the opening if it's a 2 piece style.

The one piece chambers have to be completely unscrewed from the head to replace the o-ring around the top. You would want to replace the copper seals at the base of the chamber at the same time. There would be only one thread inside the chamber after you remove the injector. The one piece chambers tend to stick up a bit out of the to head surface compared to the retainer of the 2 piece style.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Your leak no doubt is the "O: ring seal around the top of it so yes it will have to be removed to install a new one.Use soap or the white Lubra-Plate grease, nothing with oil base on it so it slips in easily. Coat the seal and the head surface with it.All the years at the Cat dealer we never used anything but the Lubra-Plate. It looks about like Ponds Cold Cream.

Kid, I really meant to say Noxzema but I guess they are about the same looking. This is no joke but a Dr. assistant gave me advice for hemorrhoids (piles) and that is the Noxzema and I have used it for years on mine when they come down and in just a little bit it shrinks them back and takes the smartness (soreness) out of them.

Hey Bowtieih, in addition to the Noxema, you will need the special tools for removal and re-installation. There has been a great deal of discussion about this subject on this forum lately which you should read up on before you get into the job. There is a set of removal tools for sale on ebay right now. The ebay number is 380234992345. Good luck with your project! John

Some of the things that float up to the top from the past.

We lost a lot of useful experience when SJ stopped coming around.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
