i have a D7U with a wet clutch, i have changed the fluid in it 3 times and
cannot seem to get the water out of it, i have also taken the screen plug out as well and let sit. my question is is there any way water from the engine can get into the sytem from a frost plug or any thing from the back side of engine. i dont think these have any frost plugs. it never sits outside due to the shifter boots is cracked. i have 30 # oil in the clutch. the level does rise some but not alot. the oil looks like dirty whip cream and almost has the same consistansy.
also how often do the pre-combustion chambers go bad? or is it usually the gasket. i seem to be getting compression in the cooling system.
i did notice around the injector retaining nut the oring was bubbling some. i did put new injectors in the machine all 4, and new orings as well. and 100 ft lbs of torque. i did not remove the chambers cause i didnt have the tool
i just orded the tool to remove the chambers. it seem to not hit on all 4
either, unless i am loading it heavy. could this be due to loss of compresion?
any input would be great thanks! wibbdog

Hi, well the pre cups they go bad every once in a blue moon it sounds like you got a pin hole in it and when it gets hot it opens up to let water in and it closes when it cools down other wise your crankcase would take on some water not alot. But be careful when taking them out cause if you pull the threads you're in trouble. And don't put used ones in put all new while your at it. Then for the oil clutch ya, there should be no way for water from the cooling system. I recomend that you drain it fill it with diesel run it for 2 minutes then drain it and let it sit for a day or two with out the drain plug in then refill with the correct oil and see what happens. But you said that it looks like whip cream now is that when you drain it or on the dip stick and is the acutual oil white or just the foam? Every thing else that you've down sounds like your doing a very sanitary job. Well good luck fellow cat lover!!!

Are you losing main engine coolant??
It is possible, though rare, to lose coolant from the pony return passage that goes from the flywheel/clutch housing to the main engine if the seal is leaking.

It's likely to be caused by corrosion of the cast iron in the seal area, or in the coolant passage, on the flywheel housing, as mentioned by OM.

hey guys thanks for the info! i loosed the fuel lines and found #2 to not pull as hard as the others, i took the precomb chamber out and found the steel whasher to seal the chamber to the head gone, now there was no water thankfully in the engine oil. also ol magnet the pony motor has a return passage for the coolant, if you could elaborate on this more i would appreciate that. it was hard to tell where the coolant was going due to the compression in cooling system. this passage is this somthing i could see with a light and mirror. or due i just pull the pony and investigate?
i have more work to due with it yet this fall when it dries up, we have had over 6"s of rain in october, it rained almost every day! i have 20 acres to moldboard plow and this thing is going to get used. will pull 6 16"s?
thanks for the info, its well apreciated, and a great site!

The passage is not visible until you pull the pony motor and even then you cannot see the housing to main engine block connection until you take it apart.

It is the #2A3791 seal in the diagram that I am referring to.

thank you. old magnet much appreciated!
i will be pulling the pony motor this winter to investigate this issue.
with the water in the wet clutch it does not operate right until warm.
i am going to drain and refill before i use it again and i will put 10 weight in it due to the temp. these cats after they sit are a work in progress i guess but thats part of the fun (maybe).
thanks again!
