hi chuckb, looking for one with no current major mechanical issues that has a lot of life left in her tracks, looking to do some work with it in my woods. I'd be willing to take on a smaller project of getting the pony motor sorted out if need be, but hopefully nothing major. Hope that makes sense. Eventually I'd like to clean it up and preserve it, love it. Not sure what they are worth. But I'm willing to pay a decent amount for the right one. -Jonathan

Did you see this one? Sorry I'm not sure if it's a 4U. And no blade.

Hey, so the guy in Long Island is looking to deal locally. He also said the track tensioner parts are rotted out. I couldn’t get him to send me detailed pics...

Hypothetically speaking, if I wanted to buy a major project D2, one where the brakes were seized and tracks needed overhauling etc, which parts are hard to find or not manufactured anymore? I’m looking to configure a chain hoist in my garage as I would be working on this project by myself. Can ya’ll provide some recommendations on some basic gear I would need to make this happen? I really appreciate it!

Everything is available, either from Cat or various vendors on machinerytrader.com (Florin is a prominent supplier). For steering components, use General Gear who have all parts new.
If you're doing clutches, you'll need hydraulic pullers in the 20-30t range. I bought a hydrafore hollow ram 20t on the web, and had my local machinist make up some adaptors so I could push and pull.
You'll need to pull/push the sprockets, brake hubs, clutch hubs. Everything else is just nuts and bolts although with mine being very rusty, half the bolts and studs broke so I had to do a lot of drilling. On my 5U, everything except the pony was stuck. It now runs like a charm but it took a lot of time and $. Remaining item is the undercarriage....

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
