I have a volume compressor that has a squeeze lever on the pump handle. Is the lever used as a valve? Fluid pumps out regardless of whether or not the lever is squeezed. Is this working properly or does the unit need repair?

Purpose of the valve is to release the pressure when done filling a zerk before moving on to the next one.

catdude, the lever on my Alemite pump does the same thing you're describing if I just pump grease out of the hose without it attached to anything. The pressure relief lever seems to work best when I'm hooked up to a fitting and there's a little presure on the system, then the valve vents the excess grease out of a little hole just inside the top of the pump, returning it for recirculation.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
