Hello, I finally got my Thirty running after many hours of work. Here is a short video I took right after I started it up. I let it run for about an hour to get an initial seat in of the rings. I will recheck the rod and main bearings clearances tomorrow to see if there is any change after the run in. Thanks Jim https://youtu.be/xakyGtiYXu8

That's interesting Old Magnet. I was taught to get up to operating temp and 'drive it like you stole it'. Was that bit of information from a cat document or something you've aquired along the way?

Yes it came from a Cat document, but I can't remember from where. Does imply Diesel engine but I would expect gas to be similar but maybe not as sensitive.

the info that OM posted i have read in my engine servicemans reference for my d318.

with gas or petrol engines, i was taught the same as hutchy, get up to operating temp and drive it like it was stolen. on diesel engines, when i was at the dealer, we would start them up and bring them o operating temperature monitoring for leaks etc. once engine was warm we would set it at different speeds very similar to the chart posted but no load on engine. after about an hour, we would change the oil and cut open the filter to check for any unusual debris. if that checked out, we then took the unit out an put it on the dyno and ran it at various loads for about 3 hours to break it in. after that it was to the wash bay ad back to the customer. on machines without a pto, we would manipulate the hydraulic system to mimic load, IE on a hydraulic excavator, we would hold the bucket over relief, and move the boom and arm at the same time "air digging", this forced the hydraulic pumps to deliver maximum pressure, and maximum flow, which is the most amount of load yo can put on an excavator engine.

What kind of terminology is " Drive it like you stole it"? Does that mean get away as inconspicuous as you can without attracting any attention or drive it like a "get away" vehicle. I have done my share of engine rebuilds plus purchase new vehicles but never drove them like a "get away" vehicle when new or freshly rebuilt.
