Hi all started a new thread.
I have a Cat 112 Grader 38E205 with a u/s power steering pump drive gear.
The pump fitted is a Vickers as mentioned in title.
Does anyone have any info on this set up?

Big Harold - These old VT16 and VT17 power steering pumps with the close-coupled oil reservoir are now obsolete. However, there are still plenty of parts available for them, and quite often, surplus new pumps are available.

The VT16 and VT17 were designed expressly for power steering purposes - and in the case of the early Cat graders, I believe this setup was supplied by a company named Rivinius Inc.

I have an overhaul manual dated 1987, for the VT16/17 in PDF file format, downloaded from the Eaton technical library - which file should still be freely available to you.

I find that eBay and Hydraulic Surplus companies, are both good for supplying parts and pumps for these old Vickers hydraulics.

Looks like you might be able to retrofit an off the shelf industrial coupling into it. It apparently runs dry??

Maybe a "Lovejoy" jaw type coupler with an appropriate spider. I am thinking of something you can slide together blind that will run with no maintenance. If it runs in oil, maybe they make spider inserts out of brass?

Sorry, I thought you were just dealing with the pump drive, I see you are into the torque box too.
D2-5J's, D6-9U's, D318 and D333 power units, 12E-99E grader, 922B & 944A wheel loaders, D330C generator set, DW20 water tanker and a bunch of Jersey cows to take care of in my spare time😄

Thanks, had to pull the shaft as couldnt figure out how the gear was retained on the shaft.
Ended up having to heat and turn with stilsons was loctited onto the taper no retention at all.
As you can see the coupling is in bad shape as it was drilled and bolts installed to drive off from previous owner.
Going to town today to source coupling runs dry so any coupling will be ok.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
