Hey Roly, he must have too much time on his hands just to think up a job like that!😆

I once, years ago, bought some D2 parts from a guy that had a lot of "junk" laying around. He had a D6 that he had removed the diesel (because he "didn't like diesel engines") and repowered it with a 327 Chevy. It turned out to be very underpowered, barely enough power to get out of it's own way.😆

However, this repower looks COOL👍. What motor is that? Was it a Genset?

You know that's kinda funny how that works. Years ago a guy here re-powered a Gas Sixty with a Cadillac V8 complete with Hydramatic.

I watched that at work in the river and it was almost worthless. The engine overheated and the tractor could only do a fraction of the work the original 4cyl did. HP does not always = HP I guess.

Wow, that's some conversion....looks well done.
That's a D17000, used in Locomotives, Electric Sets, Industrial and Marine applications.
RPM range from 750 - 1000
Hp: 145 to 200
1662 cubic inch displacement ( about double the old D8800 displacement of the D7)

Thanks for the pics.

It's the torque that does the job. V8 car engines have lot's of horsepower at higher rpm's but no torque at slower speeds.

Are the holes in the starting engine fly wheel used for statring it with a bar like a 60? Never have seen that before. I think that would make a great scraper puller! Nice job.

I could be wrong and many times are...but didn't Deas take a V8 powered crawler for a spin in some video here.
I think it had the very same sort of engine in it,however I think it was in a D8.
Movie was at one of the big gatherings a year or 2 ago.

Yup, bar start was the base offering, electric start pony was an option as seen on this unit, also could mount an air motor starter.

Interesting note on the big pancake pony....they started out with roller bearing mains but switched to the sleeve type after having rusting problems on units that sat idle for long periods of time.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
