Sorry for not responding in the last week, but our water well went out last Wednesday and been busy hauling water for the animals and getting this priority taken care of. Now for the update.................Ali it seems we were in the same boat all the way around on the Hyd pump issue, meaning that we found it did have a collar in place and we had installed the seals backwards 😊 all has been put to right now and no leaking so far.....Next step is to do a bit of welding on the blade where it connects to the push arm and once this is done we will be putting the pan back on and the blade after.

Another question, nothing serious this time, just looking for some information. Our blade had the holders for the rippers, but no rippers. The ripper is a #6-57D........does anyone have a picture of these to share or some specs so I can get my son working on making 4 of these. Or better yet, does anyone know if these would be available, somewhere in Texas preferably.

Thanks for all the information and help so far on this old girl............probably won't be the last time I need y'alls expert advice. More later as we continue getting her to work status.

How did you come by the 57D number?. The 57Dxxxx is a rear mounted ripper. The ripper shanks for it are usually quite different than the backup rippers mounted on the blade.

Glad to hear we're past the hydraulic control issues.

Hi LCS,
thanks for the update on your sealing issue. It is confusing for the uninitiated to fathom what direction the seal lips are actully supposed to face to be sealing oil in presurised compartments and others reversed for dust.
The parts pictures are your best guide for seal lip orientation as well as the fitter having to fathom out the function of the seal.
Sorry I cannot help with your rippers--by your description they are back dragging style rippers. There was some discussion and pix of these items just recently. If I recall correctly, the ones we fitted at The Dealer were little more than scarifier tynes similar in size to Motor Grader scarifier tynes that did assist the cable blades to penetrate hard soil conditions.
Cheers,
Eddie B.

OM and everyone else thanks 😊................This number was in some machine accessory information that I had gotten from the Cat house when we were looking up the Hyd control unit. Misunderstood that this was a rear mounted ripper.......and yes I am looking for information on the backup rippers for the blade. If I had an idea of what they look like and maybe some specs, my son said he can make some to fit. I am learning as I go with this old Cat and appreciate all the patience you can muster 😊 Eating a late supper this evening and will check back in the morning.........It's been a really loooong hot day here and I'm ready to call it a day! Good evening to y'all and have a good night.

As far as I know, no one is reproducing the old style aftermarket back up rippers.
I don't have any specifics on the D6 but here is the D4 version. The original shank was set up to fit a now obsolete replaceable tooth. I was able to get a newer weld on adapter and matching replacement tooth from H & L Tooth.com.

As far as fabricating replacements, the straight shank with weld on adapter and matching tooth would be the way to go. Material should be hardened, preferable AR Plate (abrasion resistent). Match the width to the size of the brackets, 1-1/2" wide minimum. These need to be heavier than regular scarifier teeth.

Thanks OM for the ripper pics these help a lot. We got the hyd pump back on and NO LEAKS 😆 so we put the belly pan and blade on yesterday....got a little run time in the yard. Another question tho.....there is a water leak in the line from the top of the block (in the back) to the pony motor. How does the water return to the block? Can this line be blocked off?? PS the pony doesn't work, she's direct start now.

Thanks in advance 😊 for any help you can offer on the new question...

Water enters the bottom of the pony from a passage through the clutch housing to the main engine and returns to the main via the pipe coming from the top of the pony motor. Yes, being that the pony is out of service the return line could be blocked off.

Good to see you up and running, seems to run fine.

Your missing a carrier roller on the RH rear.

Thanks OM......Yeah we know about the missing carrier roller, have another on the other side that needs to be replaced.....found a guy here in Texas with 2 rollers still on the stands that we need......but my emergency fund has dried up with all the break downs we been having and this will have to be on the "to do" list. Thanks again OM. Will keep updating as we go. 😊
