I started a new thread regarding the D2N winch drum nuts.
In doing some searching, I find information regarding the size I am trying to find, 1-3/4" x 10 TPI.

Apparently this is a UNS designated thread size - Unified and American threads of selected special diameters and pitches (also called Unified Special).

Typical threads are UNC and UNF (Unified course and Unified fine).

I am not having much luck finding any place selling UNS style nuts. At least I am starting to understand what I am searching for and have something else to plug into Google.

I did find a tap - http://www.hermanscentral.com/product/qual-tech-13410-high-speed-steel-tap-13609.cfm

For the price of that tap a machinist could almost whip you up a nut or two. Do you have any more info? I can look in my Machinerys Hand book to find distance across flats. Do you know how thick of a nut you need?
I am working at the shop this weekend. Could do something for you. Let me know.

Hello

Just a thought hear but if you get some hex stock, drill some holes and tap your own nut as thick as you need. Just a thought

I may have the drum nuts as someone stole a buch of "scrap metal" i.e. old cat parts and a dissasembled winch. Or I could make the nuts for you no problem,

STEPHEN, I sent you a message.

To all, thanks for the replies. I do have a lathe and will make something if I can't find some nuts. I was just hoping for originals if possible.

A friend mentioned that I take some round stock and make two threaded collars and drill holes so I could use a spanner wrench. That would work, but isn't original. But I'll go that route next.
