Been working on D2 track rollers. Have a few that are undersize. Can I build?
them back up, and what rod/wire would be the best choice? I’m thinking about
using the MIG, I can build a robotic fixture to help get a flatter more even bead
than I can do by hand. Can I make a complete face pass in one run, or would that
be too much heat? Do they need to be cooled very slowly after the weld?

I have welded up many rollers with weld. Have to be very careful with the heat--have used a water bath when anxious to get the welding done quickly---i have used 6013 rod and 7018 rod.

Hi Team,
here are some scans of the Caterpillar Roller Reclaimation Section of a Conservation publication Cat put out in the early 1950's.

depenzic gives good advice on a cooling method if you need to expedite the job.

Looks like we still have the old dead horse of "load it in any order" but what I choose.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Eddie B.
