How do I check the level of the engine oil on a Two Ton. The is a cap at the end of the shaft that turns the water pump and the mag. I assume that is to add oil but I can't find a dip stick. Are there any Two Ton owners that can help.

Thanks,

Rich

ibrich, there is no dipstick on the 2 ton, but you check the oil level by opening a drain tap on the lower left hand side of the engine and when the oil come's out of the tap is the correct oil level.

Never the less, it is a valid question for someone who is unfamiliar with the tractor!

Originally there were 2 drain taps on the left side of the sump, but most / many 2 Tons just have 2 threaded plugs in there now and you just need to make sure your oil level is between the 2 plugs, and yes, fill the oil through that large cap just in front of the water pump. The transmission and final drives uses the same oil as the motor, usually a straight 30W or 40W low detergent oil.
Good luck

I was Told ,The Idea of the two level bungs was ,Because of fuel diluting the oil . At the end of each day ,Drain the oil out to the low level , then top back up to the high level with fresh oil .

I was told that you drained off the excess in the morning. The distillate or kerosine would rise to the top over the engine oil after it set for a while. John Deeres had just one level tap; you drained it down to the "full" level.

I never ran distillate or kerosine, did run some stove oil many years ago. I can't recall that the oil level came up all that much. I did break the heads on two engines. The heavy fuel hits awfully hard and has to run hot. Don't do it in you beloved old machine!

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
