I call on a coal mine every week that uses these two D11R Carry Dozers. Each one can move 57 cubic yards of material.

WOW!
I burn just over 2 cubic yards of Anthracite per winter to heat my house. One D11R can move enough coal to heat my house for 25 years! Thats putting it in perspective! 😆

How many BTU's in a yard of coal? I know it depends on the type, grade etc., but just wondering. Not sure but it seems I remember maybe a cord of hardwood might contain ~25 million BTU.

To help me picture 57 yards, how many yards in a 80,000 fully loaded truck?

That's two big hammer knockers----------can't answer Mike Mc on the 80,000# truck; but here is a 24 cu yd dirt pan working on a landforming project---------seems like the tractor in these pictures was pulling a little over 400 hp.

So-------57 yds would be slightly more than twice this scraper's capacity.

How much HP on the D11R's----------and what would they weigh???

No doubt----------you've got the right handle (bigiron)!!! thanks for posting 👍

Mike-

80,000# truck probably might have a payload of ~60,000# (if it has a lot of aluminum in its construction). 60,000# = 30T. Dirt can weigh 1-1.5T per yard, gravel ~ 1.5T. 1.5T/Yd would mean a 57 Yd push might weigh 85 Tons. Coal would be about 42 Tons. Dirt = maybe almost three trucks, coal about 1 1/2 trucks.

(These weight values from 'Moving the Earth' by Nichols, Jr.)

I pull a 39' frameless aluminum dump trailer with a Freightliner Classic. My max payload is 46,000lbs. at an 80,000lb gross weight.
Hope that gives you some perspective.

My payload was apparently off by 25%. Multiply the 'truck' numbers by 0.75 (3/4).

Hard to believe that "Big Muskie" could drag up, carry and dump 220 cubic yards!! Wished that machine could have been saved. ( I know they tried though)
