Putting a turbo on my old D-4 . How do I adjust fuel flow ?
Need more detail - what model / serial # D4? That will determine options, if any. By fuel flow, what exactly do you mean? The maximum volume injectable per stroke?
looking up info . Will post tomorrow . I was to;d with turbo i need to increase fuel flow to injectors .
You don't have to if you don't need more max power. To get more power from an engine, you have to burn more fuel. To burn more fuel, you need more air, hence a turbocharger. However, you can still make use of one without changing the fuel rate as it can make the existing fuel burn more efficiently as the governor opens up the rack while the engine RPM drops. I've done that on my lawnmower (3cyl Yanmar) and it gives a modest torque improvement. They're also useful for reducing power loss at altitude that is a result of lower air pressure/less dense air. There's quite a lot involved in matching a turbocharger to a specific engine that's not normally turbocharged - factors such as air flow rate, fuel burn, etc. I'm no expert by any means but those are some of the factors that I've read about.
Ok. Engine sn number is 7U6005 . The idea is to increase the power a bit to help on steep hills . My friend next door did this years ago to his and it gave him another gear . The thing is it was years ago and he is 87 now and cant remember how they set it up .
There are specs in the fuel rack setting manuals giving where to adjust for different applications. That may shed some light on this but I don't believe there's anything on turbo charged D315 engines.
I don't have the book handy. Will check when I get back on Monday.
Thank you .
As a secondary alternative, take a look at the injection set-up in the model 112 Grader with the 315 engine. It has higher RPM and much more HP than the D4 model tractor. Just a thought.
Cats Forever
Will do . Thanks.
Rack screw.
But you should install a pyro first. You don't have piston cooling nozzles so personally I would never let it get over 1k degrees pre turbo.
good advive . That will be part of the install . Thanks.
