Hi, Hobo groh.
I yain't sure but I think the Trojan brand quite producing machines back in the 1960s or '70s. As I understand it, they were not an original manufacturer, except for the machine frames. I think most of the mechanicals were from companies like GM/Detroit Diesel, Cummins, Allison and/or Clark for transmissions and differentials, etc., etc.. If so, then many of these parts may well still be around but frame parts could be made of extremely high-grade 'unobtainium'.

Also, it might be worth checking the availability of replacement 'tahrs' for that particular size/model of machine.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

The nicest thing I can say about a Trojan 124 is it is a piece of junk. Built to weak for its size. 4 ea 1300x 24 tires $2200.00 plus installation. Had 5 in the 70s in a fleet where I worked. continually breaking. Couldn't afford to keep fixing them. Replaced with Cat 120s that required no repair at all in the same service environment.

The transmissions were the weakest link. Probably a clark but don't quote me. The shafts were soft and would erode away. The disks would not handle the fwd and reverse action while loading trucks. Trans repair would get very expensive. Typical repair cost on a trojan for the first 4,000 hrs would be $40,000. First 4,000 hrs on a CAT 120 was $2,000 for oil and filter service. Keep in mind back in those days the machine only cost $35,000. Stupid county controllers never could understand that low bid was not the most cost effective over the life cycle.
