Have another issue that we are researching for our ongoing quest to get the D8 back in working order...we were told by a neighbor that the Dozer needs the transmission brake adjusted....any suggestions on how??? The books we have are for a newer series D8 (the old man had 2 before he passed away) not to mention the "detailed" book leaves more questions that it does answers....Also any idea on how many feet of cable it takes to rethread the straight blade lift with a rear CCU???

The #29 rear CCU holds 225' of cable, and the blade requires 72' of cable for its operation.

Here is the flywheel clutch adjustment info for the D8 oil-type flywheel clutch ..

My parts book shows 60 ft of operating cable length (2-sheave) for the #29 ccu and 72 ft of operating cable length for the #30 front ccu (3-sheave)
Yes on the 225 ft capacity.

OM - I'm going off the chart in the 1955 "Earthmoving Guide to Profit" handbook. According to the book, all info was for current model equipment, and the 14A is listed.

It appears that some major design changes to blades/bulldozers were instigated within the period 1955-1958, as the 8S blade of 1958 gained an enormous increase in weight, to 7970 lbs.

The 1958 catalog also states that the #25 CCU is used with the 8S bulldozer .. yet the 1955 CCU chart, states the #29 CCU is used.
The 1958 chart shows 52' of cable for the front-mount CCU and 80' for the rear #25 CCU.

The only way to get it right would be to go by the blade serial number.
My 1955 parts book shows a cable and guard group for the #25 ccu on a 14A1-up and a different cable and guard group for the #29 ccu on a 15A1-up. (That's got to be a typo??)

Correction:
That is not a typo....you can hang a #25 or #29 ccu on the 14A. Could be this unit is a #25. Look and see if it has a drive shaft running down the RH side to be a #29.

Those charts are good for general reference only and don't seem to track the subtle changes found in the parts books.

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
