I'm almost afraid to ask " why did this happen" . I was making a slow speed, sharp right turn with a load behind me. I heard " BANG BANG BANG.etc...."

I stopped and looked at the bottem rollers and the track had jumped to the inside ( hope that makes sense)
At the rear. I slowly inched forward in a straight line and the tracks went back on the roller. The rollers are in good shape, I replaced them. The rear sprockets have the corners worn off the teeth... Maybe been doing this a while?

It has only happened with a load ( scraper) behind me while turning to go up hill.
This picture shows where things were rubbing...

Do all your rollers look like that one? I thought usually the ones in the middle of the track frame have a flange on the inside to help keep them aligned though I've never really looked on my old machines because they all have rock guards that help hold the rails in the right spot.

Allowing that the track is in reasonably good shape, this running off might have to do with the idler wobbling all over the place from worn or broken axle or the plates and axle ends worn out or broken, OR it might have to do with the track frames being out of line with the sprockets or flopping around. Or it might have to do with flanges busted off the rollers. What model is the tractor?

It doesn't appear that you have rock guards on the tractor. Is that correct?

It's a D6 9U. There are NO problems with the rollers. The only rollers that are "open" are the ones next to the sprocket .

When I was installing "new" rollers, I measured alignment of tracks with a string. They were pretty close.

I tried to check the rear bearings at the same time with a big bar. I could not get any movement from the rear axles - but I'm a novice at this. My tracks are properly adjusted and appear to be in good shape. Not really any rock guards, but no rocks involved at my location.

Thanks !

Just some thoughts. Make sure the track frame caps at the back are tight. If the bearing shell under the cap is missing the whole track frame could be moving sideways? How loose are the tracks? Sprocket is running centre of the roller? Dead axle bent?

I reckon its time for a track measure up, if the link is dropping right inside the roller next to the sprocket, there is an awful lot of slack there somewhere.

Hey Tognot,

I’m not very familiar with your D6. Did you acquire this Cat at a “Friend Price?” :confused2:

7upuller: Would you be referring to another cream puff from “Honest Oil Slicks slightly well used emporium of not so complete iron”?🙀🙀🙀. I’m just wondering how many pricing tiers/scales he offers... let’s see:
Dislike, okay, not so okay, friend, good buddy, bosom buddy, real good friend.......
Now about that just like new warranty........lol.
Hey Mikey! You know I’m just messing with you!!!
Safe travels in your new KWhopper.

TOGNOT:
GP sums it up ( no puns intended?) I had a D4C that was supposed to be within usable limits, but loved to throw the tracks too much for my liking. A good operator can feel/hear when they come off. It would upset me to observe (from a distance) a driver running it derailed and not a clue in the world.
I ended up having a track guy replace the chains, a couple of rollers and check the idler for excessive movement. My tractor thanks me now I think!
Good luck. JM

I would question the fitment of the rollers themselves. Are they on there because they bolted up, or do they actually belong on your model of dozer?

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
