Is there a book of any kind that shows track chain interchanges between various machines; ie Cat, Case, John Deere, International etc?

Hi Mike,
I'm planning new chains for my D2 in summer. Would the book list my options? My current understanding (which could be way off) is that one would use D3 chains, and redrill the grousers for the different bolt pattern, and remove a link so that it's 30 total (regular track frame/idlers).

I doubt you will find the D2-D3 conversion in the manual.

You use the D3 chains and pads but you need to change to a D3 sprocket ring because even though the pitch (6.125") is the same the bushing diameter changes from 1.69" to 1.85". If you change to D3 rollers you will have to add a spacer bar to the mounting because the D3 rollers are smaller diameter.

Hi Neil, new D2 chain is still available from Italy, I was offered it here in Oz for about $1,000 a side, my suggestion is to put a advert in the wanted section here and in the ACMOC magazine for a good secondhand set, you might be lucky and find a good set of tracks in your back yard for $1,000 or less, that's cheaper than $2,000 for new chain plus freighting them, plus $250 for new nuts and bolts, plus your labour removing and fitting the plates.

Good advice Mike although I have the shortcoming of liking the bling so there's every chance that I'll end up putting in an order for new....Chances of finding anything good around here are probably minimal - the left coast is where all the good stuff is. I think the chains on the 5U are ok but the 3J are shot, and I want that unit pulling ploughs and disks all day long so they need to be good.

I like the way your mind works Neil, D2 bling, too bad you are not visiting Oz, I'd line up a set of new chains from my mate Joe to go in your suitcase.

Thanks Mike,

I think that's pretty close to what I was thinking about. I thought I'd seen a book that showed about all the more popular critters along with dimensions. In particular I'm looking to see if any other manufacturer's track chains would fit a John Deere 40C crawler. Not my critter, I'm doing some work on it for the owner and thought I'd check to see what I could find.

in For Sale about 2 or 3 weeks ago by D7CAT(?).
As far as I know they are still available, includes all Pad Hardware which is worth at least $300.
Check it out!

Hi, Neil.
You and other folks around your way may find this site helpful.

https://sites.google.com/site/crawlerheaven/

I have never had any dealings with them so cannot comment from that perspective but they do seem to keep popping up from time to time.

Or this one:

http://www.sadygerts.com/

In going further through the search results for Crawler Heaven, I found this page and thought I had better post it here:

Hope it helps.

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
