Hi well I installed a torque converter in a D9 19A and it got hot very quickly so took the torque converter cooler out and looks like this hopefully is the problem. I’m assuming it probably hasn’t been cleaned since 1957 lol and the oil cooler as well! I will flush the cooling system and clean pressure test the coolers before installing any other things I should do? Thank you Clayton

yeah well theres your problem i would soak it in a cleaning solution rather than mechanical means. see if your local radiator service will hot tank it for you. or make your own hot tank.

a immersion heater in a pot of oil sitting in a bigger vat of cleaning solution

"i reject your reality and substitute my own" - adam savage. i suspect my final words maybe "well shit, that didnt work"

instead of perfection some times we just have to accept practicality

Hi, clayton.

If my memory serves me rightly, those early D9s also had an air cleaner for an air supply to the torque converter for additional coolnig. If there is one, have you checked that to see if it is restricted?

This photo shows the second air cleaner pre-cleaner:

Hi Deas Plant Bluox is correct about the air cleaner it’s for the brake system. Bluox do you have any idea what the temperature difference should be on the torque converter cooler?

I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
