I would use silicone gasket maker instead of the brush-on. I usually only apply it to the "unstuck" side of the gasket and any tears, leaving good, stuck gasket in place on whichever part it is on. That is how I would use the brush-on material as well and I have a bottle of it in my tool box right now, but I think the silicone will seal bigger gaps from missing chunks of gasket etc.
Ford or GM anaerobic gasket maker designed for Super Duty Diesel oil pans.
Why repair a bad gasket go to the local auto parts store and get a roll of fiber material and a ball pien hammer and make one. On newer stamped oil pans they usually have a ressesed area to hold gasket maker, that cast machined face likes gasket and aviation glue my 2 cents i would not personally hope that an old gasket has not seperated underneath on the bottom side to a degree and could begain to seap after vibration.. like the old man says do it right do it once. 😊 good luck
I have been cleaning parts and chasing threads on bolts, but will get to replacing the pan this weekend. I plan on patching in the gasket that was torn out with the "Ford or GM anaerobic gasket maker designed for Super Duty Diesel oil pans". I am hoping this works as the clutch housing won't have any pressure in it, or at least I don't think it will. If it leaks I will have the engine closed up and tackle that on another day. I have already bought a oil pan gasket $32.00 I can't make one that cheap although I did make one for my RD 7 as Cat didn't have one.
On another subject where do I find the lock to the idle adjust on a Zenith Carb. Cat Part 5F7678? mine broke and Cat doesn't have one.
An online search for that part number returns several hits including FP Smith and an ebay listing by Arkansas Diesel Service.
