Been a while, but there should be a pipe thread plug on the crown of the engine cover. Remove plug and you should see the cam gear and magneto gear. Rotate motor in proper direction until cylinder closest to flywheel comes to TDC. The "M" stamped on the cam gear should line up with the mark on your magneto.
Done, except for buttoning her up.

Ok great! Thanks for the information..

I have also found the "M" on the mag gear and the "C" on the cam gear. I also located the "TC" top centre stamp on the flywheel and a "MAG" stamped. Is this all good? I am assuming line up the "C" and the "M" and we are good to go.

I have also found a stamp on the flywheel that is "EXC". Can someone explain that one please?

Also make sure that the button in the mag is pointing at the #1 cylinder pickup in the mag cap
