Just a little info on the Thomas Fire burning in Santa Barbara and Ventura County California. On track to be the largest fire in state history. Currently 270,000 acres and counting. Only 14 days old. Was burning an acre a second at one point. Here are some pictures from behind my house in Carpinteria. Had the D6HXL cutting line on both ridges behind the ranch. Word is 2 dozers, a grader and a Masticator have been lost to the East on the Laguna Ridge towards Ojai. One fire fighter has lost his life near Filmore. The fire took a turn up the Santa Monica Canyon to our East and through luck and strategic backfiring crews pushed it around us. Currently it is burning behind Santa Barbara to our West as well as in the backcountry and portions of Ventura County. This has been a wind and terrain driven fire. We are all hoping that the fire can be contained before the next wind event Wednesday.
For some of you that know Allan Garmon, he his still running his faithful Peterbilt water truck tending these fires. He and his family are safe, thanks to owning his own water truck and some luck; but I believe they lost one of their homes to fire.
