I saw this yesterday and thought that I should share, I don't know if it has been posted before, if so, let's look at it again. They have sat long enough for what looks like a pepper tree to grow up through the scraper. Thanks Tad

You guys sure know how to have fun. Thanks for taking us along. Was the 2U really that easy to start, or had it been run more recent than the scraper was used?

Hi, Garlic Pete and Team.
Great job and thanks for the photos.

I am how-wevver, just a little kew-ree-yuss. Quote: "the D8 is an Airborne unit, still in its olive drab and with the lift rings still on the track frames." Unquote.

Would it be a rude question to ask what the U.S. armed forces - any branch - had in 1953 that would airlift 48,000#, especially by lift rings (The Egyptians had already buried all their gear by that time after building the pyramids.)

That rusty, grinding sound that you can hear is nothing to worry about - just me wondering

my understanding is that the lifting eyes were to crane load aboard ship for transport, it was assigned as an army airborne unit for landing strip prep, thats what i was told anyway right or wrong i don't know.

as far as the 2U running i spent a few sundays bringing her back to life a cpl of years ago and would every now and again light her off to keep things moving until it was time to go home

nice pictures Tom and good job to all crew present

You guys have the best adventures, I swear. Love the patina on that D8, the faded OD and light surface rust really gives it character. Great stuff!

Thanks for the explanation on the 'airlift'. I was trying not to get splinters while I tried to remember what aircraft were available back in 1953 that could sling lift a D8, blade and all.

Re the Sundays: would you figure now that they were WELL spent? It's great to see another one going to good home.

Just my 0.02.

I was gonna say, anybody that can walk up to a pony motor that has been sitting for 25 years and start it up the same day as my amazing respect!

Great adventure!
