I don't remember anybody saying that these people were extremely smart. I only said they brought a decent chain. That excavator is probably gonna needs some pretty serious cleaning in the slew ring area too.

couild you do it with out lifting the body from the base though. it would be a big job.

If it was only water in the slew ring and it was well greased then it should be fine but if the water deposited mud or sand in there it would be an issue.

That is exactly my thinking and I suspect that the only way to be 100% sure would be to clean it out. But I yain't wunna the people who fixes 'em. I've pretty much always been working among those who keep the 'fixers' employed, although not contributing as much as some to their continued job security..
