Have my Ten back running after a catastrophic oil pump failure. Am working to finish this project up. When I dismantled the tractor there was a thin pad between the gas tank and the engine. It may be asbestos. There is no mention of it in the parts book. I have not seen this on any other Ten I have looked at. Just curious if anyone else has this and is it really necessary. It does seem like it would be a good idea to insulate the gas tank from the heat of the engine, but the fact that I haven't seen any others makes it seem unnecessary. My serial number is #896 . Any ideas? Mark

it is to help dampen vibration and prevent metal to metal wear that can cause a leaking tank, look up blakeystews post about a fifteen and there is some info there on what people have used.

Several years ago I bought similar replacement "padding" from Mcmaster Carr.

Good Luck

This is a blanket the size of the tank that covers the whole underside.

Never seen a blanket, but there was an optional heat shield. It used longer cylinder head bolts to fasten and curved upwards between the exhaust manifold and fuel tank. I had one but sold it. Knew I would not need it for recreational use.

Unless you plan on using your TEN for all day field work...you will not need it. Mine has never vapor locked on the hottest days even when plowing for for a solid hour.

I would leave it off. Blankets around anything hold moisture for very long periods of time causing other problems.

That is what I have. It is in rough shape so I will just leave it off. Thanks, M

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
