My dad used a model 30 with a blade to take out a woods. After the work was done in the mid '70's he parked it in an enclosed shed and put a cover over the exhaust. Over the years when I visited, I would turn the engine with the crank to make sure it wasn't stuck. The last time I visited, I couldn't budge the crank. What type of solvent do you recommend I pour into the cylinders? I hope to get the machine to my house in the next year to begin going through it and get it going again.

At the shop for loosening things we used a liquid called Kroil for it and we got it by the gallon and Cat even sold it years ago but possibly an automotive or truck parts supply store might have it too.It was a deep red type oily liquid and I never used any type of the penetrating oil that worked as good as it would.Make sure you ask for Kroil.

54d2,

Kroil is the ticket, Airkroil is the spray can, Kroil is the liquid can.

We use this exclusively for lubricating and loosening bolts and... stuck engines. I learned about this product years ago at the refineries I worked at. Every refinery I worked at used this product for various applications.

I have a stuck 15 and kroil hasn't impressed me yet I still think Gibbs is better and a better bargain. Just my 2 cents. Jason

ran ads for Gibb and I think John Deeres Green magazine did too. Someday I'll try it when I get a chance to pick up a can.

have you tried PB blaster, we work with stuck or rusty bolts all the time and this has out preformed all of the others on the market.

I suppose there are maybe better or just as good of new oils today as I,ve been retired from Cat dealer since 1991 and not in or up to lots of new things that have come out since then. It,s good to know of these newer or better items on the market today.

Sj I don't know that gibbs is better than kroil but for what kroil costs I think gibbs is just fine. I put kroil in a piston about 3 months ago and still haven't had much luck it must really be tight! Jason

Thanks for the input. After reading the comments and talking with others around here, I've decided to try PB Blaster. Like Chriscokid, I've had very good luck with it on rusty bolts.

I'll report my results when I get the machine broke loose.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
