Hey Pioneernorth,

I am very curious what the project is. Care to tell us.

Could it be a spot to build a house?

The project I am working on is a road access to a property I own up here in the Yukon. First I logged all the trees off for the worthwhile timber. I cut with a Cat 219D feller buncher, Next I skidded all the trees with my 518 grapple skidder. Next is a pass with the hoe and rake to pop all the stumps and pile most of the woody debris. The step I'm at with the 14a is stripping the organic containing layer of topsoil. After the top soil is pushed off I shape up the mineral soil into the road bed. I used the 14a to rough it all in and followed with my 12F to trim it all up nice. The topsoil that is pushed to the edge gets landscaped down for the most part with the odd pile here and there that I will haul out. I'm hoping to gravel it this weekend and smooth it all out with the 12F. The 14a is the cat I built last winter out of 2 and a half that I had. Here is a list: Changed trans. New segments. Bearings on outer final drives. New brakes and set up steering. Changed swing frames to latest(most modern) and near new condition idlers, and top rollers. Used the best of what I had for the bottom rollers. (Many like new) Wear plates by the yokes are new. Fixed every leak and broken bolt in the whole machine. Removed pup engine to fix leaks behind it and re-installed properly to get the pinion meshing right. Every gasket and O-ring is genuine Cat. Installed certified ROPS canopy that is welded on right. Sealed and lubricated 9 inch rail that measures near new. Ice lugged with D7 size lugs. Preheated pad and gapped every lug. Still need to install the Carco Model J winch. This Cat does run very well. Temp is just in the warm when running hard all day. With the tilt dozer cutting the ditches is real slick. The road is still a work in progress but here are a couple more shots. Cheers.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
