A machine I would love to own came up for auction on line. It is a 1953 special built stretch D8's (Mary Ann) built for the Antarctic. The website is http://antarcticauction.com/auctions...nt/cat-lpg-d8/. The price is currently at $264.50 but shipping might be a bit extreme. I did not see it listed as to where it currently is but I think it is still at Little America.

Looks like it is in California.

The vessel is offloaded in Port Hueneme, California, home to Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) near the city of Oxnard. Due to security at US Military installations, ALL guests will need to be cleared by base security as per U.S. Government regulations.

Good thing there is two of them so we don't have to fight over it.

I would take the D8H. Not as unique but a pretty nice tractor.

Hi, Glen.
Do you have current wide load permits for your biggest floats - or will you need to call on D4e to deliver it? LOL.

Or will we soon see a video of Oil Slick and Garlic Pete running down the road side by side with wunna these 1/2 on each? Now that would test 'em out. LOL.

My warped sense of humor at work.

WOW! This could be a dream come true. I have been drooling over these D8's since I was a kid and watching them on TV back when they were first down there (1960 somethng). Now, IF tonight or tomorrow night I could with both BIG lotteries (Powerball and Megamillions) I could have both. But it seems like it is nothing more than a dream, for now.

BUT, it would be fantastic. Just think, IF I were able to get them I could even affort to have them fully restored. Just call me DREAMER!!!! :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

Hi, Folks.
These jiggers got around a bit.

I also heard that 4 of them were shipped to Quad's Country from Antarctica about 10 years or so ago and I have seen a video clip of a couple of them supposedly working in Alaska.

Just my 0.02.

You have a wonderful day. Best wishes. Deas Plant.

You sure have to plan ahead to get on that base. I was thinking about a detour next week to see the Cats in person, but the we will be long gone before the security clearance would come thru. I wonder if Debby's navy credentials would get us in if we showed up at the gate? Long drive for a little to none chance at entry.

With Red flagging traffic, Oil Slick could almost walk one to Bakersfield. Now that would be a sight.

:clap2:We should all get together and do a forum group purchase. We could keep them at my place.

Testimonials

"I also joined a year ago. had been on here a couple of times as a non-member and found the info very helpful so I got a one year subscription (not very expensive at all) to try it out. I really like all the resources on here so I just got a three year. I think its a very small price for what you can get out of this site."
